Daily habits that fuel your stress and anxiety

Do you often feel tense, anxious, or stressed, as if you're in an endless spiral? Daily habits like constant worrying, drinking a lot of coffee, reading social media or news can unconsciously cause stress and anxiety. The nice (and sometimes frustrating) thing is that with small adjustments you can make a world of difference in how you feel. So don't let your constant worrying drive you crazy and discover how a few small changes in your daily routine can give you a sense of calm again.

Living in the past or the future

We all sometimes tend to worry about things in the past or overanalyze our future. What if something goes wrong tomorrow? That endless worrying keeps your brain constantly on alert, ready to fight or flee. As a result, your body unnecessarily produces stress hormones, which in turn causes tension in, for example, your shoulders, shallow breathing, or a high heart rate. Instead of getting caught up in endless 'what if' scenarios, it's good to become aware of this pattern and take a moment to pause, take a deep breath, and realize that not everything is within your control. There's no point in worrying about something that happened in the past or something whose outcome you can't predict anyway, so give yourself the space to let go of your worries and be more in the moment.

The influence of Social Media

Everyone knows it, you scroll through Instagram and suddenly two hours have passed. You quickly get completely absorbed in a perfect world where everyone seems to be beautiful and successful, has a perfect relationship and a dream job. Comparing your 'real' life to someone's perfectly curated feed can only make you feel insecure and stressed. Take a digital detox now and then and you'll be amazed at how much more peace you feel. And a comfort is that you're literally missing nothing. Everyone has their own story, and social media often shows us a deceptively filtered version of the world.

Selfcare

When was the last time you really took some time for yourself? Too little sleep (or lying awake due to worrying), grabbing your phone as soon as you wake up, drinking a lot of coffee, unhealthy food, and little exercise (or too intense workouts) have a huge impact on your stress level. And especially when you're already so busy and think you don't have time for relaxation or healthy eating, your body needs it so much to recharge. It's time to make selfcare your first priority: plan a yoga session, start your day with a walk in the park or snuggle up on the couch with a good book after work. Your body and mind will thank you. Small moments of rest can help you recharge and get through the day with renewed energy.

Extra tips for a relaxed mindset

Try a few simple, small adjustments in your daily routine. You really don't have to get up at 6 a.m. to meditate for an hour or completely ban caffeine from your life. Start your day dancing to your favorite song (my personal favorite ☺) to get all the tension out of your body, schedule conscious small breaks during your work to do nothing for a while, or have an evening without Netflix or smartphone. Small changes, like bringing your attention to your breathing for a few minutes or taking a walk outside during your break, help you break the negative spiral and feel much calmer. It's often the small steps that help you pause, break negative patterns, and get closer to yourself.
